Tsoi/Kobus & Associates wins major project in Providence, RI

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Cambridge-based Tsoi/Kobus & Associates (www.tka-architects.com) is pleased to announce that it has recently been selected to design a major project.

TK&A will design academic offices and nursing education facilities within the landmark South Street Power Station in Providence, RI. The redevelopment effort is led by CV Properties, LLC. The new building — a focal point of the city’s revitalized Jewelry District — will be designed within the Power Station’s preserved shell. Approximately 120,000 square feet will be used by Brown University for administrative offices, while another 120,000 square feet will become a Nursing Education Center for Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island.  The Power Station was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2006.  The project is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and a 2016 completion date is anticipated. TK&A is teamed with local Providence architect, Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels for the project and has brought RCG Architects on board to assist with the nursing education programming.

“We are excited to begin work on this important project, which represents a major turning point for a long neglected section of Providence,” says Rick Kobus, senior principal at Tsoi/Kobus & Associates. “The opportunity to preserve a key piece of architectural history while bringing new life to this neighborhood is particularly gratifying.”
