U.S. Army healthcare facilities opened on time and on budget

The Army successfully completed six major military hospital transition projects within the last five years

The U.S. Army successfully completed six major military hospital transition projects opened on time and on budget within the last five years, according to an article on the Hospitals & Health Networks websites.

Managing these operations simultaneously was a major challenge for the Army. Its staff and leadership needed to remain engaged in everyday patient care and support services, and not pulled away from critical responsibilities to work on the transition project.

The Army outsourced initial outfitting and transition services. The project team was able to relocate approximately 10,000 staff members from Walter Reed and the National Naval Medical Center to new facilities at Bethesda and Fort Belvoir.

The procurement of more than 30,000 pieces of new equipment and furniture and the transfer of several hundred other pieces of equipment from other existing Army healthcare facilities was also outsourced.
