The UF Health Cancer Hospital South Tower in Gainesville, Fla., has reduced energy costs by optimizing its building automation system (BAS), according to Health Facilities Management website.
A recent project that also included retrocommissioning the system at a second facility cut UF Health energy costs by more than $5 million in less than five years.
The American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) recognized both UF Health Shands Vista Rehab and Cancer Hospital South Tower with an Energy to Care Award for cutting energy use, reducing operational costs and freeing up resources for patient care, the article said.
Software added to the BAS tracks operations and sends email notifications to staff of possible energy waste.
