U.S. News & World Report ranks Huntington Memorial Hospital among the nation's best hospitals

PASADENA, Calif.—Huntington Memorial Hospital has again been ranked among the top hospitals in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients.

Huntington was named one of the ten “Best Hospitals” overall in California and was ranked among the best in the country in the orthopedics and urology specialties. Just 3 percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty. Huntington was also named one of the five best hospitals in the greater Los Angeles area out of the 140 hospitals in the market.

“Being named one of the best medical centers in the country year after year is an achievement in which we all take great pride,” said Steven A. Ralph, CEO at Huntington Hospital. “This recognition is a tribute to our employees, medical staff, volunteers, donors, and everyone who puts patient care first and who recognizes the responsibility we have as the trusted source of healthcare in our community.”

In addition to its national and regional rankings, Huntington Hospital was noted to be “high performing” in cancer care; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and GI surgery; geriatrics; gynecology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; and pulmonology.

U.S. News publishes “Best Hospitals” to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face a particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problems or age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels, and other quantifiable data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.

The rankings have been published at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in print in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, available in bookstores and on newsstands on August 27.

Huntington Memorial Hospital is a 625-bed not-for-profit hospital that is home to the only Level II trauma center and the only NICU in the San Gabriel Valley. Renowned for its programs in neurosciences, cardiovascular services and cancer care, Huntington Hospital is an active teaching hospital with graduate medical education programs in internal medicine and general surgery. Huntington Hospital was granted nursing Magnet® status in 2011. Consistent with its mission the hospital provides millions of dollars annually in charity care, benefits for vulnerable populations, health research, education and training, and support programs that may otherwise be absent from the community.
