A bill currently being considered in Virginia would remove longterm care facilities' option to bar cameras in rooms, according to an article on the The Virginian-Pilot website.
The new legislation toughens the regulation by requiring that nursing homes allow the cameras.
The Virginia Health Care Association supports the voluntary regulations that resulted from the earlier action, but said it has concerns about the mandatory nature of the current bill, citing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy law.
Several other states already have these laws, because families want to monitor care of relatives who can’t communicate well due to illness or disease.
