Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., is adding a new $187 million, seven-story building with single-occupancy rooms for 128 patients, according to an article on the VPR website.
The new construction wouldn’t add to Fletcher Allen's total inpatient capacity — about 450 beds — but would allow for the closure of some outdated rooms and the transformation of some semi-private rooms.
Dave Keelty, the director of facilities planning and development at Fletcher Allen, said the project is about more than comfort, according to the article. Rooms were designed to allow for more sunlight, stringent infection control and space for visiting families.
“So many studies indicate the quality of the environment does impact the length of stay,” Keelty said.
