Maintaining hygienic healthcare textiles (HCT) is as important to quality patient outcomes as practicing proper hand hygiene.

Unfortunately, many healthcare professionals fail to maintain the hygienic integrity of HCTs, the article said. 

HCTs are dropped to the floor and picked up and used rather than being placed in a soiled/contaminated linen hamper. Staff may clutch hygienically clean HCTs to their uniform while transporting them.
