Following this summer’s Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) conference, there’s been a lot of industry confusion about the use of relocatable power taps, or power strips, in healthcare facilities, according to an article on the Tripp-Lite website.
In September, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced a categorical waiver allowing the use of power strips in new and existing healthcare facility patient care areas, if the provider/supplier is in compliance with all applicable 2012 LSC (Life Safety Code) power strip requirements and with all other 2000 LSC electrical system and equipment provisions.
To address remaining power strip questions, a free white paper, "Power Strip Safety & Regulatory Compliance: A Comprehensive Guide to Utilizing Power Strips in Healthcare Facilities" is available on the Tripp-Lite site.
