Most hospitals are still using outdated chiller and boiler systems, according to the Health Facilities Management website.

Many current hospital chiller and boiler plant systems are comparatively inefficient. Add outdated technology, and you have operational inefficiencies and a waste of money.

For most hospitals, it’s time for upgrades in the variable primary flow (VPF) chilled-water systems, decentralized boiler systems, and a properly designed and applied automated energy management and control system.

All three changes will require significant new investment, especially the chiller and boiler upgrades, the article said.
