C. auris cases now number 156

The CDC raised case count from 122

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) raised its case count of Candida auris, increasing the number of total cases from 122 in May to 156, according to an article on the Becker's Infection Control & Clinical Quality website.

Of those, 86 are clinical cases, up from 77 in May. C. auris has also been isolated from an additional 70 patients in healthcare facilities where clinical cases were found.

In May, seven states (New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts and Oklahoma) reported C. auris cases. Now, Florida has a case as well.

The acting director of the CDC has labeled C. auris as a "catastrophic threat to society."
