Healthcare leaders are urged to to spot emerging threats early on: Winter is coming


In "Game of Thrones," the rulers of the seven kingdoms focused their energy and attention on the political squabbles at hand instead of focusing on looming treats, a trait they share with many healthcare leaders, according to an article on the Forbes website.

In-fighting dominates the healthcare landscape and leaders are failing to spot and act upon the biggest threats: Healthcare costs continue to rise faster than our ability to pay. Winter is coming.

For years, we've heard about the need to transform care delivery. Still, most healthcare professionals assume someone else – businesses, the government or their patients – will come to the rescue and shoulder the ever-growing economic burden, the article said.

Healthcare needs someone willing to act on the threat. In "Game of Thrones," that someone was Jon Snow. The powers that be in many industries tend to dismiss threats to the status quo as distant and improbable. They pay a massive price for their overconfidence. Just ask Kodak.
