Disaster drills key to mass-shooter response

Orlando hospital participated in drill three months before nightclub shooting


Emergency response drill were critical to one Orlando, Fla., hospital’s response to the recent mass shooting, according to an article on the Fierce Healthcare website.

Three months prior to managing two waves of 44 patients injured in the Pulse nightclub shooting Orlando Regional Medical Center (ORMC) participated in an annual disaster drill involving community, state and federal authorities as well as other Florida hospitals. 

This year’s scenario focused on a mock school shooting that injured 500 people. 

The hospital had also conducted smaller drills three times a month.
