Hospital use wanes as healthcare moves to cheaper settings

The trend underscores a shift across the healthcare industry

The trend underscores the shift across the healthcare industry, the article said.

Across inpatient, outpatient, emergency department (ED) and ambulatory surgery centers, use slowed during the second quarter of 2018 and year over year, according to the survey.

The numbers may — in part — be reflective of a drop off from the flu season, they are consistent with facility efforts to manage populations away from high-cost settings to lower-cost options.
