Laundry Practices A Key Part Of Infection Control

It’s an area that’s underappreciated in eldercare


Laundry practices must be prioritized in COVID-19 prevention strategies for nursing homes and senior living communities, according to an article on the McKnight’s Long-Term Care News website.

Laundry can be overlooked in the eldercare industry. During the pandemic, most are handling laundry on site, so it’s a good time to review practices.

Although it is unusual that infections and deaths are linked to healthcare facility linens, a few high-profile cases (including five children at New Orleans Children’s Hospital in 2008-2009) have occurred. 

Common  mistakes include a lack of functional separation between clean and soiled linen and mixing heavily and lightly soiled items.
