Overcrowding in Irish hospitals has almost 8,000 patients stuck on gurneys, according to an article on the Independent website.
The figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organization reveal the extent of pressure on hospitals. The August numbers were 2 percent higher than last year.
The hospitals that were worst hit were University Hospital Limerick with 969; University Hospital Galway with 619; and Cork University Hospital with 604.
Infection control and refurbishment were cited as other reasons for putting the beds off limits to patients on gurneys
