3M expands spill management portfolio with medium absorption capacity sorbent products

ST. PAUL, Minn. — 3M is expanding its innovative sorbent line to include 3M™ Medium Capacity Sorbents to clean up lower volume spills and contain everyday drips and leaks. Designed for use in multiple industries, users can choose from three types: Maintenance (for non-aggressive liquids), Oil & Petroleum (oil only) and Chemical (for most aggressive and non-aggressive).

All 3M sorbents are made with microfiber materials, which contain millions of tiny pockets that absorb and hold liquids. They also contain no abrasive granules that can damage expensive equipment. 3M Medium Capacity Sorbents feature a low loft design, added scrim to help improve prod8uct strength, and are made with at least 50 percent recycled content by weight. They are also available in two formats, pads and rolls, allowing users to use the best sorbent for the job. Once used, all 3M sorbents may be incinerated.

“3M Medium Capacity Sorbents are a more sustainable option for cleaning up small spills, wiping contaminated areas, and are versatile for getting at hard-to-reach places,” said Aaron Mills, 3M marketing development manager. “They absorb more than traditional sorbents so you don’t have to use as much, and they can be wrung out and reused many times.”

3M offers three different types of Medium Capacity Sorbents. 3M Maintenance Sorbents can be used for general spill control and clean-up of non-aggressive water- and petroleum-based liquids. 3M Oil & Petroleum Sorbents are reusable and contain a scrim that only takes on oil—more than 90 percent of oil can be reclaimed—making them ideal for use at automotive care and machine shops. 3M Chemical Sorbents are used for control and clean-up of most hazardous liquids. They resist reactions with most hazardous chemicals, including acids, and also absorb petroleum- and water-based solutions.

3M Medium Capacity Sorbents are the latest innovation from 3M Commercial Solutions Division, which has been recognized and respected as a leading janitorial-sanitary solutions provider for more than 50 years. For more information, call 800-557-2249 or visit 3m.com/floorsafety.
