670-bed hospital OK'd in U.K.

Midland Metropolitan Hospital to be the UK's first PF2 hospital

Sandwell Borough Council has approval to build the £450m Midland Metropolitan Hospital in Smethwick, U.K., according to an article on the Construction Enquirer website.

The new hospital will be built under Private Finance 2 (PF2). That means that services like portering and cleaning will remain within the National Health Service (NHS).

It is hoped work will start early next year on a brownfield site with the aim of completing the 670 beds hospital in mid-2018. The new hospital will boast a fifth floor winter garden for visitors and patients.

Hard facilities management and life-cycle maintenance services will also be delivered by Carillion, the hospital's construction firm.
