AI Usage for Healthcare Facilities

People in all industries are finding more use cases for artificial intelligence.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has become more accessible than ever, with nearly 800 million people using the likes of ChatGPT every week. People in all industries are finding more use cases for the technology, and facilities management is no exception to this.

According to a report by OpenAI, the healthcare industry is among the fastest growing sectors for AI usage. The average worker has sent nearly 30 percent more messages to AI over the past year. In addition, usage of structured workflows has increased 19 times year-to-date, the report found. The report also suggests that more intelligent models are being systematically integrated into expanding products and services.

McKinsey reports the most common use cases of AI in healthcare:

  • Knowledge management
  • IT
  • Product and/or service development
  • Marketing and sales
  • Service operations
  • Risk, legal and compliance
  • Strategy and corporate finance
  • Manufacturing
  • Supply chain/inventory management
  • Human resources
  • Software engineering

The OpenAI report found that 75 percent of workers that use AI at work claimed that it has improved either the speed or quality of their output, saving 40-60 minutes per day. In addition, the technology is enabling 75 percent of respondents to do new kinds of work instead of focusing on the same mundane tasks every day.

While the technology continues to grow every day, AI is still largely in its pilot phase. According to the OpenAI report, new features are being added roughly every three days to better work with employees’ needs. Despite this, only one-third of companies plan to scale their AI programs in the coming year, McKinsey reports.
