AORN Announces 2017 Election Results


The Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) has announced the 2017 election results for its Board of Directors and Nominating Committee. The new officers, directors, and committee members were announced to members at Congress, the association’s annual business meeting, on Wednesday, April 5. Each has been elected to a two-year term, with the exception of president and president-elect, who serve one-year terms.

Nathalie Walker, MBA, RN, CNOR, has assumed the role of president for the new term from the role of president-elect.  Walker is a member of the Louisiana Nursing Supply and Demand Commission, a sub-committee of the Health Works Commission of Louisiana. She has been a perioperative nurse for 24 years and a member of AORN for 24 years where she has held various leadership roles including board secretary and legislative coordinator for the state of Louisiana.

The newly elected officers are:
Stephanie S. Davis, MSHA, RN, CNOR, CSSM, president-elect. Davis is the vice president of surgical services for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), a large hospital corporation in the US, located in Nashville, Tennessee. Davis has been a perioperative nurse for 34 years and a member of AORN for 28 years.
Jane Flowers, MSN, RN, CNOR, NEA-BC, CRCST, treasurer. Flowers is a nurse manager for Sterile Processing at the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health at Easton, Dorchester; Caulk Lane Ambulatory Surgery Center, and Queen Anne’s Ambulatory Surgery Center. Flowers has been a perioperative nurse for 36 years and a member of AORN for 36 years.

The newly elected members of the board are:
Vicki Barnett, MSN, RN, CNOR. Barnett is the Director of Surgical Services at Northside Hospital, Atlanta, Georgia.
James (Jay) Bowers, BSN, RN, CNOR, TNCC. Bowers is a clinical coordinator and nurse educator at West Virginia University Medicine, Morgantown, West Virginia.
Evangeline (Vangie) Dennis, BSN, RN, CNOR, CMLSO. Dennis is Director of Patient Care Practice, Ambulatory Surgery Services at Emory Healthcare, Atlanta, Georgia.
Brenda G. Larkin, MS, RN, ACNS-BC, CNS-CP, CNOR. Larkin is a clinical nurse specialist for Aurora Health Care System’s Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and Aurora Memorial Hospital, Burlington, Wisconsin.

Newly elected to the Nominating Committee are:
Karen M. Knapp, BSN, RN, CNOR, CRNFA. Knapp is a travel nurse working both as an RN first assistant and a consultant.
Nikki Washington, MSN, MBA-HCM, RN, CNOR. Washington is a clinical manager at the DeBakey Heart & Vascular Catheterization Laboratory, Houston, Texas.
