Accenture Smart Buildings Solutions and Thinkeco team to reduce plug-load inefficiencies

NEW YORK - Accenture Smart Buildings & Energy Solutions (ASB/ES) and ThinkEco are providing building owners with detailed information on office plug loads.  The ThinkEco modlet, a smart-plug solution that eliminates energy waste, sends real-time granular data to the Smart Building suite of interactive web-based tools, which track, analyze and report building data through a central dashboard. From either the ASB/ES system, or directly through ThinkEco’s cloud-based platform, individual plug-load control and scheduling become straight-forward.

Most building owners have addressed HVAC energy efficiency and retrofitted their lighting with newer efficient models, but plug-load waste remains a growing and difficult energy management challenge. As every plugged-in electronic device is used by individual tenants, it is often difficult to curtail their energy usage or even pinpoint where the bigger energy drains are coming from. Even when smarter building controls are put into place, plug-load assessment and control have been difficult to integrate into the central system that addresses HVAC and lighting systems.

ASB/ES provides a suite of interactive, web-based tools that track, analyze and report on buildings’ energy data, in real time, through a central dashboard. Such analysis can reduce an organization’s energy costs by up to 30 percent – often within a year of installation. The system complements, rather than replaces, existing building management systems no matter how varied the equipment is across a client’s global facilities, to help drive efficiency without requiring any expensive or disruptive capital refits.

ThinkEco’s modlet system securely and non-invasively extends the power of the ASB/ES suite. The modlet wirelessly meters and controls power use at the plug level. Its cloud-based software platform enables users to see when, where and how energy is used, and gives them the ability to automatically cut unnecessary energy waste at its source. Many existing Accenture clients have engaged ThinkEco to capture department-level plug-load data that can then be analyzed in the context of the entire building system. In this way, ASB/ES and ThinkEco are pioneering industry-specific plug-load benchmarks.

Buildings consume more than 40 percent of the world’s energy. Plug-load waste represents about 25 percent of facilities’ overall costs. With energy costs rising worldwide, carbon efficiency has become a business imperative and companies require energy management solutions that have immediate ecological impact and support their sustainability efforts.

“Providing modlet capabilities to Accenture’s Smart Building Solutions makes it easier for facilities to manage all of their energy usage,” said Daja Phillips, senior vice president of ThinkEco, Inc. “Whether for printers, computers, vending machines, water coolers and even server room air conditioners, our platform identifies current energy use and is the first defense against further energy waste. The data insights are immediately actionable through both the ThinkEco portal and ASB/ES platform.”
