Casa Grande Regional Medical Center in Casa Grande, Ariz., recently launched a patient safety week initiative, one of a series of efforts to promote patient safety.
“It’s really ensuring patients are educated about what they can expect from their care,” Cheryse Austin, vice president of patient care services and chief nursing officer at the hospital, said in an article on the Casa Grande Dispatch website.
A hospital-wide hand hygiene program that has lowered infection rates at the hospital is one aspect of the hospitals safety focus. Hand sanitizer and reminders were placed throughout the hospital. Compliance with the program is a formal part of an employee’s evaluation.
On an administrative level, a 16-member quality management team, made up of health care providers and administrators, meets monthly and reviews specific quality metrics.
According to the article, patients are able to access an educational tool on the website that explains their rights as a patient and generally informs them what they can and should expect from the hospital during their stay.
