Aspirus leadership and community partners gathered on the Aspirus Wausau Hospital (AWH) roof recently to kick off another Aspirus sustainability initiative.

Construction crews started installing a 200 KW Photovoltaic solar panel system on AWH earlier this year. This is the largest array in Marathon County, Wis.

AWH is good candidate for a renewable energy system due to the energy used and the roof space available. The system is 566 modules and projected to produce 240,017 kWh per year for an initial annual offset of 2.7% of the hospital’s energy usage.  

The health system’s sustainability goals are to reduce energy use by 50% and carbon impact by 80% by 2028.

Aspirus Langlade Hospital was the first of the system’s hospitals to install solar panels (100KW) with system plans to install modules on other hospitals and clinics in the future. For more information, visit aspirus.org.
