Three trends are emerging: User-driven design, nature-inspired healing and greater diversity in flooring


As baby boomers are increasingly influencing senior care facility design, three trends are emerging, according to an article on the FacilityCare website: User-driven design, nature-inspired healing and greater diversity in flooring. 

• User-driven design takes into consideration the individual needs of the end user, identifying their challenges, interests and expectations. 

• Including nature-based elements into a healthcare setting is shown to have a positive effect on comfort and the healing process. Bringing the outside into a space means looking at how natural, physical elements such as water, sunlight, plant life and air can be represented in interior furnishings and design.

• Senior living environments require a flooring solution that balances safety and aesthetics. Textile composite flooring, wood, bamboo or luxury vinyl tile are all options depending on facility requirements.
