The family of a 6-month-old baby hospitalized in Seattle for a heart problem says she died after she acquired an infection from mold at the hospital, according to an article on the WOWT website.
After undergoing three open heart surgeries at the hospital, the baby girl developed an Aspergillus mold infection. The mold was detected in the facility’s operating rooms in November around the time of Beth’s third surgery.
The hospital revealed in November that 14 patients had developed surgical site infections from Aspergillus since 2001. The mold is thought to have came from their air-handling units in the operating rooms.
Seven of the 14 infected children have died.
