Breach of fire regulations in operating rooms spark changes

Manchester, U.K., hospital cited for a variety of violations

An National Health Service (NHS) trust has pledged to take action after Bury’s Fairfield General Hospital in Manchester, U.K., breached a variety of fire safety regulations, according to an article on the Manchester Evening News website.

Areas of concern at Fairfield included fire doors wedged open, storeroom doors left insecure, combustible items stored in escape routes and failure to maintain emergency routes and exits.

Other concerns included an unsuitable and insufficient fire safety risk assessment, damaged and poorly-maintained fire doors and limited evidence of fire drills taking place, the article said.

“Most of the issues were of a general housekeeping nature and have already been addressed,” John Allwork, head of estate operations at the NHS trust, said.
