CHRISTUS Health announced that it will close CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center effective April 25, consolidating care into nearby CHRISTUS hospitals to better serve the growing San Antonio community.

The move follows an evaluation of CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center’s operations and the evolving healthcare needs of the community. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System currently serves a population of 2.3 million in Bexar, Comal and Hays counties.

CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Westover Hills is 13 miles away and is opening a new tower in the spring, replacing all the inpatient beds occupied at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Alamo Heights, nine miles away, is adding advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment and key services such as a critical care unit and an expanded emergency department. Both have full-service emergency departments and surgical capacity. CHRISTUS Children’s is also nearby in downtown San Antonio.

In the past five years, CHRISTUS has invested $300 million in strategic capital to expand access to care through hospital expansion, ambulatory facilities and investment in an employed network of physicians in the growing areas of the region. These include Alamo Heights, Westover Hills, San Marcos and New Braunfels.

CHRISTUS will work to help place the CHRISTUS Associates currently at CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital – Medical Center with other area CHRISTUS facilities.
