CMS stresses infection control basics amid coronavirus outbreak

CMS sent a memo to state survey agency directors urging them to double down on compliance


The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is urging state survey agency directors to focus on basic infection control practices amid coronavirus outbreak, according to an article on the Becker's Clinical Leadership and Infection Control website.

CMS sent a memo with information and links to resources to combat the illness caused by the coronavirus. 

CMS also said it will continue to work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, accrediting organizations and state survey agencies to ensure that healthcare facility infection control programs meet minimum health and safety standards.

There will be a particular emphasis on hand hygiene practices.
