The list was compiled by architects and frontline workers

A task force of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) releasing a new checklist for healthcare facilities that was developed healthcare providers on the frontlines of the pandemic, according to an article on the Boston Real Estate Times website.

Healthcare professionals and designers are already talking about how modern hospital designs could change to avoid a repeat of the current pandemic situation, according to a Milwaukee Independent article.

Modern hospitals often lack the flexibility to accommodate a sudden surge of patients.

The pandemic also has hospital designers and architects discussing the need for touch-free control for lighting, temperature and other building functions.

The AIA checklists provides strategies to support staff and patients by addressing the challenges imposed by COVID-19.

The list deals with:

  • Spatial modifications
  • Air handling
  • Spatial modifications for COVID procedures
