Central Pa. hospital getting armed guards, tougher security

Some security guards at the Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center are carrying guns

Some security guards at the  Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center are carrying guns, according to an article on the Penn Live website.

There are also new signs throughout the center informing patients and visitors that aggressive actions and talk won’t be tolerated.

The facility also has staffers who are trained to de-escalate potentially violent situations.

The new measures come after an increase in violent incidents. In August, a man was arrested after he allegedly tried to rape a nurse. In January, a man hospitalized while facing criminal charges assaulted a nurse in a supply room, resulting in injuries to the nurse and to a nurse and security guard who came to help.
