The nine-story tower $500 million outpatient tower will  be the second major structure built as part of Rush University Medical Center's plan to upgrade its campus, according to an article on the Chicago Crain's Business website.

The first major structure, a butterfly-shaped patient tower, cost $683 million to build and started accepting patients in January 2012.

Outpatient services from multiple buildings on either side of an expressway will converge in the new tower, which is expected to be completed in 2020.

The new building will have about the same square footage as Rush's current outpatient facilities, but added efficiency leaves room for growth
