Colorado Health Department confirms surgical infections at Porter

Agency says links to sterilization flaws unclear

Colorado’s Health Department (CDPHE) has confirmed surgical infections in “a number of patients” at Porter Adventist Hospital, according to an article on the Denver Post website.

The Denver healthcare facility is at the center of an investigation into sterilization practices.

In a statement, Dr. Larry Wolk, CDPHE’s executive director, said Porter has made several changes requested by state officials and that it would resume surgeries “on a limited schedule.”

“It is unknown if these infections are linked to the breach, and we may not be able to determine linkage,” Wolk said.
