Conn. hospital reviewing security after driver sets himself on fire in ED

Middlesex Hospital emergency department closed after man slammed car into its doors, damaging the building


Middlesex Hospital is reviewing security after a driver slammed his car into the doors of the emergency department and set himself on fire in the Emergency Department, according to an article on The Middletown Press website.

The emergency room at the Middleton, Conn., healthcare facility sustained smoke, fire and physical damage when a naked 27-year-old Middletown man allegedly intentionally drove his car into the building.

The driver was badly burned when he set himself on fire in his damaged car. He live-streamed the crash and part of the aftermath on Facebook.

The hospital has installed barriers in front of the emergency room as well as at the hospital’s facilities in Marlborough and Westbrook. Hospital officials are evaluating other safety measures as well
