Designing for long-term infection control

Planners and designers are working with clinicians and facilities staff to improve prevention from pre-design programming through specification

At the pre-design stage, planners develop programs to accommodate the scope of the hospital’s infection control goals — from well-located to a biocontainment unit.

Research has shown that the visibility of sinks directly impacts hand-washing and has an impact on levels of bacterial contamination on and around the sink area, the article said.
