The Joint Commission has named Dr. Erin DuPree chief medical officer and VP of the organization's Center for Transforming Healthcare, according to an article on the Modern Healthcare website.
An obstetrician and gynecologist, DuPree most recently served as CMO and senior VP for medical affairs at Mount Sinai Medical Center, New York, a post she assumed in September 2012. Prior to that role, she was Mount Sinai's VP for patient safety, deputy CMO and vice chair of quality for obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive sciences.
In December 2011, DuPree was among 73 Innovation Advisors chosen by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation to help guide its work in delivery system reform and population health management.
She was also a physician leader in the Center for Transforming Healthcare's wrong-site surgery project, which culminated in the release in February 2012 of a tool hospitals can use to assess their risk of such surgical events, along with steps to prevent them.
Launched in 2009, the Center works collaboratively with providers to address pressing safety issues, including communication among caregivers and hand hygiene.
