FEMA Sends Gowns Without Arm Holes And Strapless Masks To Care Homes

$134 million shipment to frontline workers included ‘glorified garbage bag gowns’


The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has distributed $134 million of personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontline workers in nursing homes that included sleeveless plastic gowns that resemble jumbo garbage bags and expired surgical masks, according to an article on the Business Insider website.

For instance, facilities in New Hampshire received two shipments of unusable PPE in May and June, including oversized gowns without armholes.

FEMA told caregivers they weren't wearing the gowns properly according to the article.

Hospitals are already stockpiling PPE, including masks, face shields and gowns. for the upcoming flu season, according to an article on the Observer-Reporter website.  

The pandemic has strained the worldwide supply of PPE, including masks, face shields and gowns.
