Fighting Workplace Violence With AI-Powered Security Tools

Northwell Health has recently expanded its investment in integrated security tools.

Northwell Health is turning to AI-powered technology to protect its staff and patients amid rising incidents of workplace violence, Long Island Business News reports. The healthcare system has recently expanded its investment in integrated security tools.

This effort comes amid growing concerns about national trends. A 2024 report from National Nurses United found that more than 80 percent of nurses have experienced workplace violence. The growing crisis has made physical security and safety a priority for healthcare facilities.

According to Long Island Business News, Northwell partnered with Motorola Solutions to deploy a suite of security technologies that work together across its network. These include AI-enhanced video surveillance, mass notification systems, panic buttons and upgraded two-way radio communication.

Other healthcare facilities are making similar investments. At Lee Memorial Hospital in Florida, an AI-based weapon detection system uses cameras, sensors and screens to detect guns, knives and other weapons in real-time, WINK News reports.

These developments reflect a broader trend in healthcare: the increasing use of advanced technology not just to improve clinical outcomes, but also to strengthen safety and operational awareness within healthcare settings.
