Finding pest activity in healthcare facilities

Environmental services departments need to be aware when pests are present


Pest control is often outsourced in healthcare facilities, but environmental services departments still need to understand how to deal with pest-related situations, according to an article on the Health Facilities Maintenance website.

This knowledge can support preventive measures as part of an integrated pest management program, the article said.

Flies, ants and cockroaches are the most common pests found in healthcare facilities, according to a 2013 survey of Association for the Healthcare Environment members.

Knowing about the pests and how to discover them is the first step in preventing infestation.
