Florida nursing home deaths blamed on preventable chaos

Only one nursing home with a power loss is known to have caused multiple deaths

Eleven residents of the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills, Fla., were dead by the end of that day on Sept. 13, and three who were among the 140 evacuated due ti Hurricane Irma have died since, according to an article on the Seattle Times website.

Only one nursing home with a power loss is known to have caused multiple deaths. The fatalities are being blamed on preventable chaos.

The Hollywood police have opened a criminal investigation, while the state has all but shut down the residence.

The nursing home’s state-approved emergency plan was flummoxed by a foreseeable electrical failure. The home said its repeated requests for help from state and county officials, and to the power company, yielded no results.

The officials and the power company said, it was the nursing home’s responsibility to ensure its residents’ safety.
