As healthcare facilities struggle to resume somewhat normal operations and activities, a growing number of organizations are undertaking construction projects in an effort to address the healthcare needs of their communities.
WakeFor example, Forest Baptist Health is preparing to begin construction on a new $450 million care tower at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, according to the Triad Business Journal. The care tower is expected to be completed by the end of 2025 and includes an upgraded emergency department, state-of-the-art operating rooms and enhanced adult intensive care units.
In March, WFBH announced plans for a $30 million outpatient children’s center in the Triad and a second medical school campus in Charlotte planned to open in 2024. Both projects are a part of the 10-year, $3.4 billion investment by Atrium Health in WFBH announced in October 2020. $2.8 billion of that investment will go toward improving facilities and funding critical investments, such as the constructing the new care tower, building a new Eye Institute and funding expansion of virtual care capabilities.
