GAF awarded one of the world’s largest rooftop solar projects

GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer, is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the roofing material for one of the world’s largest rooftop solar projects located at Westmont Drive in the Port of Los Angeles. PermaCity, a Los Angeles-based solar developer, partnered with GAF because of its unique ability to provide both high quality commercial roofing materials and to facilitate a comprehensive financing solution. GAF is supplying an estimated 1.9 million square feet of EverGuard® TPO — enough to cover more than 30 football fields. The TPO roofing installation was awarded to Milark Corp. (Clark Roofing), a GAF Master Select™ Contractor, the highest contractor certification for quality and dependability GAF has to offer.

“PermaCity is thrilled to partner with GAF on our landmark project, creating 500 great jobs in Los Angeles and a positive future for all,” stated Jonathan Port, chief executive officer at PermaCity.

“GAF Solar is proud to work with PermaCity to help fund and support one of the world’s largest rooftop solar projects,” said Paul Bromfield, chief marketing officer at GAF. “This project demonstrates the ability of our commercial solar program to empower building owners with a more affordable means to lower their energy costs. By teaming with finance partners, solar developers, and leading roofing and solar installers, we look forward to making a broad array of additional high-value rooftop solar projects a reality.”

The GAF Commercial Solar Program used a proprietary transaction structure to provide a one-stop financing solution for the entire project. The program offers resources for designing, financing, and installing a new solar system along with a commercial roofing system. GAF’s EverGuard TPO was a natural choice for this project due to its exceptional seam strength as well as its outstanding long term weathering—all of which results in maximum reliability.

The roofing system will be topped with PermaCity’s fast and light SolarStrap racking solution, which is designed to work together with the solar array and the GAF TPO to provide maximum efficiency to the project. The system will generate an estimated 707 million kWhs over 25 years. As stated at the Los Angeles Business Council’s Sustainability Summit, this is equivalent to taking 6,000 cars off the road every year and is enough energy to power 5,000 homes in LA.
