Gulf Coast Medical Center to double in size

Three stories and 367,500 square feet will be added to the hospital's main building

Preliminary work has begun to nearly double the size of the Gulf Coast Medical Center, in Fort Myers, Fla., according to an article on the News-Press.com website.

The most striking difference will be the addition of three stories and 367,500 square feet to the hospital's main building to accommodate 268 new beds and expanded medical departments, the article said.

More than 48,000 square feet of the existing hospital will also be renovated.

They will also add two helicopter landing pads added on the east side of the property. Work on a new 1,300-space parking garage on the south end of the Gulf Coast campus has already begun.
