Healthcare facilities dealing with record flooding in Midwest

More than a dozen states hit with severe weather

Healthcare facilities hit with spring flooding in the Midwest are still recovering, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

“We’re drying out after a minimal amount of water and creek silt was left in the patient rooms on the south side of the hospital for several days,” Kelly Kalkowski, administrator and CEO of Niobrara Valley Hospital in Lynch, Neb., said in the article.

The hospital evacuated two patients, closed its doors briefly and temporarily lost power on the first day of the flooding.

At Community Hospital-Fairfax (Mo.), many staff are still finding it difficult to get to and from work due to numerous road closures, including Interstate 29, the area’s most important transportation artery.
