Healthcare facilities laundry breach infection control tests

More than a quarter of laundry in NHS Lanarkshire breaches infection control tests

Official reports show that 28.8% of linen bags containing bed sheets and pillow cases from NHS Lanarkshire in Scotland were not compliant with infection control standards, according to an article on the Evening Times website.

All infectious linen - which is stained with blood or bodily fluids - should be stored separately, from used linen in tagged containers.

Work is underway to improve training for staff handling laundry including nurses and porters on correct bed stripping and bagging practices.

The papers also show that NHS Lanarkshire is missing targets for hand hygiene with a 78% compliance rate over 2015/2016 falling well short of a 95% target.
