More healthcare facilities are using green initiatives to curb the effects of pollution on the public health, according to an article on the Hospitals and Health Networks website. 

Hospitals are using cleaning fluids and chemicals that safely eliminate pathogens. 

At the same time, Health Care Without Harm, a largely nurse-led initiative, focuses on how hospitals tackle medical waste and incorporate the greenest chemicals possible to soften the impact on patients.

Environmental Protection Agency administrator Gina McCarthy said hospitals are also working with families to manage asthma cases in a more holistic way.
