Healthcare needs to catch up on security, according to a blog on the FacilityCare website.

Public arenas everywhere have cracked down on security but healthcare is lagging behind, according to blogger Heather Hudson, Visitor Management Solutions.

Crime in hospitals rose 37 percent from 2010 to 2012, and another 25 percent from 2012 to 2013, according to the 2014 Healthcare Crime and Incident Study. 

Hudson suggests six steps to adopt best practices to enhance security and maintain regulatory compliance:

• Establish a security policy in place for visitors

• Require visitors to wear ID badges 

• Train staff

• Find visitor management program that fits

• Check system frequently
