Hospital designs virtual-reality therapy for children

Children's hospital construction site used as distraction

Loma Linda (Calif.) University Children’s Hospital officials and the McCarthy Building Cos. found a way for young patients to virtually experience the construction work outside their windows, according to an article on the Health Facilities Management website.

The hospital developed the virtual-therapy session to help reduce patients' anxiety and pain.

The children place a virtual-reality (VR) headset on and are virtually transported to the project construction area as if they were walking on the site.

The VR experience allows the children to learn how hospitals are built and explore the hospital construction project that is just outside their room in the existing hospital facility.
