Hospitals hire professional chefs and offer room-service dining


Hospital food is no longer the butt of jokes in healthcare facilities around the country, according to an article on the Portland Press Herald website.

Hospitals are hiring trained chefs, upgrading their menus and offering room service-style dining in hopes of boosting the healing process and patient satisfaction. 

Hospitals hope those higher patient satisfaction rates influence consumers shopping around for a place to have a baby or get elective surgery.

Under the Affordable Care Act, federal reimbursement is increasingly being linked to patient satisfaction scores.
