More ES departments are expanding the use of technology to improve patient safety and monitor hand-hygiene compliance. Many organizations are deploying handheld computer devices, patient-flow software and other tools.
With increased pressure to cut costs, many teams find themselves cleaning more square footage with fewer staff, so many ES departments also look to technology to boost efficiency.
For instance, Greg May, director of environmental services, linens and sustainability at UC San Diego Health System, has issued iPads to all of his managers to complete room cleaning inspection reports and chart other information, the article said.
