Hospitals train for mass shootings

Checking for weapons is part of the drill

During a drill for a mass shooting, staff at the 12 Sentara Healthcare hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina ask "victims" to change into a hospital gown to check for concealed weapons, according to an article on the U.S. News website.

• Expanding the capacity of the emergency department quickly

• Mobilizing doctors, nurses and first responders

• Devising a triage system

Depending on the number of casualties they're dealing with, officials at some hospitals may set up small tents outside their facility's entrance to evaluate patients.
