Hospitals urged to cooperate to beat hackers

Security frameworks and threat intelligence sharing already exist


Hospitals, health systems and networks need to join forces, organize, come together to proactively fend off hackers, according to an article on the Healthcare IT News website.

Some hospitals are working together — just not nearly enough, the article said. Security frameworks, information sharing centers, industry trade groups already exist.

Tom Ridge, the first U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, said that a community approach has worked in other industries.

Healthcare actually has an information sharing and analysis center (ISAC), the NH-ISAC. In response to one attack, for instance, the NH-ISAC had a team of subject matter experts working to determine what the problem was and then craft a mitigation strategy. Members, in turn, can take that strategy and put all or part into action.
